Keywords:
Frugal innovation, urban resilience, ecological transition, ARDL, MoroccoAbstract
The ecological transition is currently a crucial challenge for urban areas, subject to increasing pressure on natural resources, climate change and sustainable development imperatives. In this context, frugal innovation appears as a promising method to encourage innovative solutions, affordable and adapted to the constraints of emerging countries. This study aims to examine the influence of frugal innovation on urban ecosystem resilience in Morocco.
The approach adopted is based on an empirical analysis using annual data from 2010 to 2025, mainly collected from the World Bank, the OECD, the High Commission for Planning (HCP) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The indices used in this research are developed from indicators representative of frugal innovation and urban resilience. Econometric analysis uses an ARDL.
The results reveal that frugal innovation has a positive impact on the resilience of urban ecosystems. They also highlight the importance of human capital, institutional quality and environmental expenditure in improving the ability of territories to adapt to the challenges of the ecological transition.
This study enriches knowledge on frugal innovation and urban resilience in the context of emerging countries and offers recommendations to policymakers to promote policies supporting a sustainable ecological transition.
